If change is all about people, we need people who are all about change.

This exciting role offers a once-in-a-career opportunity to join the leadership team of an organisation that’s changing on a vast scale, and at a rapid pace. Our Community Vision 2030 represents a fundamentally new way of working for the benefit of Surrey residents. Underpinned by comprehensive and detailed transformation strategies, it’s been adopted and embraced by residents, members and staff alike. So now’s the time to get it done.

We’ve developed an ambitious workforce strategy, Our People 2021. This crucial element of the change programme will enable wholesale organisational transformation and ensure we reach our aim of being recognised as an outstanding council, and a truly great place to work.

We want to be sustainable, outward looking, and optimistic: an organisation that manages change really well, is achievement oriented, works collaboratively wherever we are, and designs interventions that go to the heart of the matter. Moreover, we want to develop change leaders and focus on the value we can add; we want to shape stronger partnerships, embrace our changing role, and embed a culture of innovation, accountability, agility and risk awareness.

A significant amount of preparatory work has been achieved, so our incoming Director of HR will have an excellent platform on which to build. You’re likely to have an impressive track record of leading radical, positive change in complex settings.

Bursting with fresh ideas and inspiration – underpinned by gilt-edged professional ability – you’ll understand how to frame narratives of change and self development that match process and practice to the aspirational outcomes we’ve set ourselves. Strong candidates will be able to point to experience of strategic leadership in culture change, reward and recognition, workforce engagement and workforce planning, with a particular focus on diversity and inclusion.
