Lincolnshire County Council is looking to recruit a Highways Officer to assist in the delivery of Local Highways Management, contributing to operational, technical and performance and financial matters to ensure the efficient use of the Lincolnshire Highway Network.

About the Team

Lincolnshire County Council's Local Highways Management team provide a front-line service and essential maintenance to one of the biggest highways network in the country. There are four Local Highways Teams covering the North, East, South and West of the County who work in partnership with both internal Operational Asset Management teams and external contractors within the Lincolnshire Highways Alliance. Lincolnshire County Council is recognised as a leading light in the Highways Sector, becoming one of the first 2 "Band 3" authorities in the country in the Department for Transport incentivised funding, as well as recently winning the Highways Management award at the MJ awards.

About the Role

This position is critical in delivering the Local Highways Management services in accordance with the Highways Act 1980 and the County Council's policies and procedures. You will be part of our Local Highways team, covering your own area of the highways network, with support from Assistant Highways Officers and leadership from Senior Highways Officers and the Local Highways Manager. The role is varied and challenging and you will have the opportunity to broaden your skills through training and development to support your progression in the highways sector, with opportunities for progression into more senior roles within the wider Highways Service.

Your workload will include highways maintenance, winter maintenance, highway safety inspections, Highway Act enforcement, minor highway and environmental improvements, and public interface on all highway services.

About You

  • You will hold an HNC in an appropriate discipline.
  • You will be able to demonstrate a good level of technical knowledge in relation to highways maintenance.
  • You will be flexible and responsive, enabling you to work in a dynamic and diverse team.
  • You will have relevant experience in highways maintenance.
  • You will have good interpersonal skills and able to establish positive relationships with officers of the Council, Councillors, external agencies and road users.
  • You will have experience of using IT systems such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint and the ability and drive to learn how to use bespoke asset management systems.
  • You will be required to drive at work on a daily basis therefore a full driving license is essential.
  • Streetworks accreditation and Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) registration are desirable but not essential.

Please note the job locations are Boston and Horncastle.
