This is an exciting time to join us as we seek to appoint a Section 151 Officer (Responsible Finance Officer) to play a vital role in our journey to make our ambitions a reality and lead the Council’s Financial Strategy and Governance. With exceptional standards of professional practice you will work with a team of Specialist and Case Officers to deliver professional services moving forward.
We anticipate that the S151 Officer role will not require full time hours in order to achieve the required outcomes. We are therefore pleased to be able to consider applications on a full or part time basis to suit candidate’s preferences. For those applying on a full time basis, in addition to the S151 Officer responsibilities you will also act as the Lead Financial Advisor on our exciting regeneration projects, such as our schemes in Chard, Yeovil and Wincanton, and further develop our commercial portfolio and interests. If applying on a part time basis we envisage that 2.5 days per week will be required. Please indicate on your application on which basis you are applying.
So, who are we looking for?
- You are a qualified accountant with a UK chartered accountancy body qualification.
- You will have the ability to act strategically at a consistently high level, providing advice to key decision makers to ensure compliance with all financial, statutory and constitutional requirements.
- You will demonstrate a track record of achievement with extensive financial leadership experience.
- Commercial acumen and experience of financial governance of Commercial developments within the public sector would be an advantage.

You should be aware that the salary stated for the role includes a market supplement of £5,000 per annum, which is subject to review after 3 years.
