Fixed Term Contract x 12 months

Our HMO Licensing Team is seeking to recruit additional Environmental Health Officers on a fixed term basis to support our work in enforcing against Rogue Landlords and delivering our outputs for a major project integrating communities.

We will positively consider applicants who are working towards EHO status and will consider alternative patterns of working where this aligns with service needs.

These posts report to the HMO Licensing Team Manager and are required to deliver our HMO Licensing and Enforcement Scheme.   You will be required to work flexible hours, including early morning or late evening joint inspections of hard to access domestic premises (HMOs), become competent in licensing procedures and enforcement, including prosecutions and the service of civil penalty notices.

You will ideally hold or be working towards a BSc or Master’s degree in Environmental Health and be working towards achieving Chartered status (EHORB). You will be able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of Housing Act and related legislation and/or be qualified in HHSRS, have strong written and verbal communication skills and a client-centered, methodical approach to investigation procedures, including cross partnership working. You will be able to carry out monitoring and inspections and will have an awareness of personal safety precautions.  Apprenticeships may also be considered.

Your experience will include effectively dealing with angry or aggressive people, along with those who are anxious or upset. 

You must be able to use stair access inside and outside of the office.

Applicants must possess a valid driving license and be able to provide daily use of a vehicle suitable for Council business.  Essential car user allowance and car loan are available.
