This position is a fixed term contract until May 2020.

An exciting, yet challenging, opportunity has arisen to join SMBC’s Housing Solution Service on an initial fixed term contract up to May 2020, as a Visiting Officer. The successful candidate will be required to support the Housing Solutions Team to provide a high quality homelessness and lettings service. The role is primarily responsible for undertaking home visits to assist in the investigation of homelessness, establish the circumstances of housing applications and, through effective intervention and negotiation, minimise and prevent homelessness.

This is a very challenging role in a highly pressurised environment and requires the post holder to provide high quality, effective homelessness, housing and lettings advice, and to prevent and resolve the homelessness of customers that approach. You will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, have the ability to work flexibly with competing demands. Experience of working within a homelessness, social housing or similar environment is essential.

We are looking for someone who is empathetic and able to respond effectively to sensitive situations. You will need to use your own initiative to resolve issues and be able to work under pressure in a very demanding environment.

If you think you have the right skills, capability and attitude to undertake this role, we want to hear from you.

Our Values; TrustUnity and Progress make us unique, they define how we do things and are reflected in the way we behave. They are important to us, guiding and shaping our organisational culture. Our values are key to us achieving Sandwell’s Vision 2030 and also guide us when we recruit.
