Essex County Council (ECC) is one of the largest and most dynamic local authorities in the UK, serving a population of 2 million residents, and has a very successful track record of delivering transformational change. ECC anticipated change was needed in the public sector and has worked to deliver better quality at lower cost. We have an ambitious transformation agenda - one with the scope to reach every part of the council. We are changing the way we think, the way we work, and the ways in which we deliver our services. We are committed to becoming a place where individuals, partners and communities feel proud to play their role and genuinely want to belong. We're immensely proud of our flexible working options.

Are you an architect/surveyor/designer looking for a new challenge?
Are you experienced at delivering building projects and would like to use those skills to help Essex County Council deliver its capital programme?

Essex County Council is recruiting to its Infrastructure Delivery Technical team. With a pipeline of construction work over the next three years averaging £60 million per annum, we are seeking an individual with design/architectural/construction knowledge, preferably with schools, but not essential, who could be part of a growing in house team responsible for the County's Capital Programme (which is delivered by the private sector primarily through our construction framework).
Being part of an in house 'intelligent client' team is an excellent opportunity to broaden your knowledge and use your technical skills and expertise to deliver schools and other council buildings.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience.

* A good understanding of design, a track record of collaborative working, excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to respond to deadlines are essential.

* The role involves performing capacity and viability studies, preparing employers briefs (employer's requirements), discussing design issues with stakeholders, reviewing and commenting on design proposals/solutions submitted by consultants, maintaining the Council's standards, providing strategic advice to the schools service team and carrying out site inspections of construction works when required.

* Please note that all our design work is outsourced, and this role is not about designing solutions.

Qualification certificates should be brought to interview.

Essex County Council is proud to offer an excellent benefits package to all its employees.

Essex County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.

We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity is key to our success.
