Do you enjoy leading and motivating staff? Is your passion AMHP work?  Do you want to make a positive difference?

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly skilled Approved Mental Health Professional as the AMHP Team Manager and Lead AMHP for Richmond and Wandsworth.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to manage the daytime Richmond and Wandsworth AMHP Service - a single service working across both boroughs - as well as providing professional leadership and stewardship to both daytime and out of hours AMHPs working in the two boroughs.

As AMHP Team Manager you will be responsible for delivering an effective, efficient and high-quality day time AMHP Service for Richmond and Wandsworth.  This also includes overseeing the provision of social supervision for conditionally discharged patients for Richmond and Wandsworth.

As the Lead AMHP you will be responsible for maintaining the integrity, quality and compliance of the AMHP service across the two boroughs - including the day time AMHP Service, the Adult Emergency Duty Team (AEDT) for Richmond, Kingston, Merton and Sutton and the Wandsworth Out of Hours Team.

You will be an experienced AMHP with extensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act and mental health social work practice.  You will hold high practice standards and will role model the values and behaviour expected within the role. You will enjoy supporting and developing AMHP practice along the continuum of experience from AMHP trainees to experienced AMHPs.  You will be confident in supporting the team’s relationships with key partners and advocating on behalf of service users and their carers to ensure that AHMPs can effectively carry out their work.

The AMHP Service’s main base is at Springfield Hospital in Wandsworth borough. There is a smaller AMHP office located in Twickenham in Richmond borough.  The AMHP Service is, in the main, staffed by AMHPs who work solely as AMHPs. The service is supported by AMHPs who work in mental health social work teams on a rota’d basis. The Service has a dedicated administrator and a dedicated support worker who support AMHPs with both the admin and practical aspects of their work.

We are a busy service offering varied and stimulating practice opportunities for AMHPs due to our diverse inner-city population and the range of specialist mental health inpatient services offered in our local area. Our service is highly respected by our partner organisations and commended for its timely response to referrals.   The AMHP service works closely with the secondary mental health provider for the two boroughs, the South West London and St Georges NHS Trust as well as the Met Police and the London Ambulance Service and HMP Wandsworth.

In return, we can offer you:

  • High quality AMHP training in partnership with our local AMHP training consortium.   Individual and group supervision via facilitated AMHP reflective practice sessions.
  • A comprehensive training offer provided through the Adult Social Care and Academy covering a broad range of social care areas.
  • Working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance.  These include compressed hours, home working (dependent on service need) and a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays.

In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities is also offered.
