MST is a new approach in Kirklees; this is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the expansion of this work alongside developing a therapeutic approach across Childrens Service.  As Head of Service you will introduce, lead, embed and expand the MST programmes in Kirklees. A key aspect of your role will also be to provide clinical expertise and professional supervision to MST Supervisors and Therapists.

MST Standard is an intensive family and community based intervention for children and young people aged 11-17, where young people are at risk of out of home placement in either care or custody due to their offending or having severe behaviour problems. The aim of MST is to break the cycle of anti-social behaviours by keeping young people safely at home, in school, and out of trouble. The service will be contactable 24/7 to ensure the most effective and timely support to families at times of crisis.

We have been fortunate enough to secure Youth Endowment Funding to establish a new MST Exploitation Team for 10 to 14 yrs. This will be the first of its kind and our aim will be to shape the agenda for future practice Nationally with three other Local Authorities. In addition to this we are working towards the establishment of and MST Fit as part of our Childrens Home provision and your role will be key to developing the Business Case and establishing these Services.

This Head of Service role will also play a pivotal role in developing a therapeutic approach/formulation to working with children, young people and their families across the Local Authority Partnership and shaping a consistent approach to practice using evidence based models.

You will have experience of working effectively with families with complex and multiple presenting needs and experience of working in a child protection environment. Professionally qualified with a qualification relevant to MST you’ll be skilled in the use of psychological assessment, psychological formulation, intervention and management. Your continuing professional development will be supported throughout and with immediate initial training in MST.

Experience of implementing an evidence based treatment model such as MST would be a distinct advantage.

To support the intensity of support and interventions, the service will be contactable 24/7 and as such you will be expected to facilitate and oversee an on-call rota.

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required for this job.  A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.

To apply please submit your CV and supporting statement demonstrating how you meet the requirements of the job on the attached job profile.
