Senior Social Worker for Mental Health Accommodation Pilot - Secondment until end of Sept 2020

This post is a secondment opportunity up until the end of September 2020 for an individual looking to work as a Senior Social Worker on a project working in the Mental Health Accommodation Team.

Applications close on 17th November, with interviews to be held on Friday 22nd November.

Mental Health services are undergoing significant changes and as part of the re design work in the Mental Health Accommodation pathway, an opportunity has arisen to be part of an exciting pilot working alongside District and Borough Councils in Braintree, Basildon and Tendring designing and developing an early intervention and prevention offer.

The aim of the role is to provide appropriate social care to support vulnerable people to sustain their tenancy. We know from research and from people with lived experience telling us that having a home is one of the most important things to maintaining good mental health.

The role will be based within the county wide Adult Mental Health Wellbeing team at Essex County Council, however, the majority of the time will be spent working out in localities alongside the Districts and Boroughs and local housing providers, upskilling them to understand Mental Health issues better and providing the appropriate assessment support.

Our ambition through this secondment and the commissioned pilot is to prevent people losing their tenancies. The secondment will be promoting a different way of working, sharing knowledge with partners who may not be as confident supporting people with mental health issues, undertaking assessments and working alongside the commissioned provider in developing a model of support.

If you are someone who is looking to step up and develop your skills, or someone who wants experience of working closely with commissioning, this could be an ideal opportunity. This role will allow you to work closely with individuals and families to help them achieve their goals, but also to support them to remain living where they are - something we know is critical in supporting people to recover.

The post holder will be responsible for working with vulnerable individuals, couples and families who have complex mental health needs which is impacting on their ability to sustain a tenancy. Their social needs will be as a result of poor mental health. The post holder will need to have a good understanding of the Care Act and have links with family services to ensure a whole family approach where appropriate.
The post holder will be required to support the operational team manager and the commissioning manager by modelling good practice, setting expectations for others and taking responsibility and accountability for the practice of others, particularly with the peer support workers within pilot scheme. The role also requires the post holder to build on existing relationships with strategic partners.
