Things are changing in Wandsworth and rapidly. We have a newly appointed Director of Children’s Services and Assistant Director for Children and Families with ambitious plans to lead Wandsworth to good and outstanding. We are working with new projects and ways of working which are very exciting. This includes introducing systemic practice; being part of the innovation programme and introducing the Family Safeguarding Model; and planning to work with Coram on a New Beginnings programme for our care leavers.

Your new role

As an Assistant Team Manager in LAC service you will have a major contribution to make to the delivery of our vision and strategic priorities, by working with the Team Manager to manage the delivery and performance of high quality social work provision to children and their families across the Team. This will involve working with the Team Manager to performance manage staff within the team and use management information and audit findings to identify where team or individual performance is excellent and can be shared with other staff and where performance can be improved.

You will mentor and support social workers in dealing with the most complex cases and will develop effective practice through direct development of others and through driving practice improvement across the service. You may also supervise social work students, newly qualified social workers as part of the ASYE, trainees and support staff.

What you'll need to succeed

We are looking for passionate, experienced senior social workers with supervisory / managerial experience. You will have an excellent legislative knowledge with experience in holding complex cases. You will be an inspirational leader able to support and inspire your team to achieve the best possible outcomes for children in care. 

*please note Social Work degree and HCPC registration are compulsory for this post
