The Role

The Home Improvement agency in Richmond and Wandsworth carry out adaptations in properties which allow individuals to continue to live in their own homes and communities. The type of adaptations includes installing level access showers, door widening for wheelchair access, adapting kitchen’s and installing specialist equipment such as hoists and stairlifts.

We work closely with our OT service who are responsible for assessing what work would meet the needs of client. We work with contractors who carry out the works under the supervision of Surveyors and Senior Surveyors.

We have a new vacancy within the team and are looking to recruit a support officer who will support the work of the team. You will be the first point of contact for the team taking queries from clients, contractors and other professions. You will raise orders for repairs for tenants residing in Council accommodation, checking and paying invoices, sending tenders out to contractors.

We are looking for a person with exceptional interpersonal skills to deal with vulnerable clients with empathy and understanding. You should have good experience of using a range of IT systems to raise orders, make payments and run reports. Have excellent numerical skills and an eye for detail as the post holder will be required to check payments and calculations submitted by surveyors.

We will welcome applications from individuals who do not have all the necessary skills/experience, but who are able to demonstrate that they have the ability and enthusiasm to learn all aspects of this role.

Some of the duties of the post include:

  • To have a detailed knowledge of the processes and work of the HIA to effectively deal with all initial enquires coming into the team and to collate and store all information required by the HIA to process grants and carry out adaptive works.
  • The Shared Staffing Arrangement will keep its structures under continual review and as a result the post holder should expect to carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the level of the post.
  • To be able to work unsupervised and use initiative to meet the changing demands of the team, by prioritising work appropriately. This would include prioritising payments and closing cases on Civica before the end of the financial year, carrying out audit checks before producing grant approval documents, collating and sending tender documents via secure email and preparing coldbuster grants for approval and payment.
  • To be responsible for contacting clients, agencies and organisations to obtain information required by the HIA. This will include obtaining permission from landlords, clients and Housing Associations for work to proceed, dealing directly with solicitors in relation to land registry charges, Occupational Therapists, Contractors and sending out and collating customer satisfaction surveys.

In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments. A wide range of developmental opportunities is also offered.
