Strategic Director Environment and Climate Change

Employer
Kirklees Metropolitan Council
Location
Kirklees, West Yorkshire
Salary
£119,940 to £131,935
Closing date
4 May 2020

We are a significant player in the region; the Kirklees economy is worth over £6bn and integral to the Leeds City Region. We operate within the largest economy outside of London and the South East and are ideally placed at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse. In Kirklees we’re proud; linking both industry and innovation to a strong local heritage and an area of outstanding natural beauty. We are now looking for two outstanding leaders to join our senior management team and work closely together to grow the economy and protect and enhance our environment.

Our front-line services are crucial for our residents and getting the basics right is key to our regeneration plans. Our waste PFI contract ends in 2023 and to meet the Government’s waste strategy and our own ambitions will require a wholesale change to the service. Modernising waste services and ensuring all our front-line environmental services respond to the individual needs of each place will be a significant part of the role. We have an ambitious target to be carbon neutral by 2038 and improved air quality
by 2024.  We’re establishing our Kirklees Climate Commission and have an agreed climate change action plan. Embedding the climate change agenda into all that we do will be an important focus of the role.

If you’re ready to make real change happen and achieve our ambition, find out how to apply at https://www.kirklees.gov.uk/executiverecruitment

For an informal discussion about the roles contact our retained consultants at Penna: Nick Raper on 07715 690463, or Pete John on 07701  305617.

Closing date: Monday 4th May 2020 at 9am.
