This is an exceptional opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference to the children, young people and families of our Borough.

Director of Children’s Services

St Helens has a lot to offer. We have energetic political leadership which is determined to get things done; we have exciting opportunities for regeneration and growth in the borough; and we have an innovative and unique health and social care partnership – St Helens Cares. We are also an important part of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and we have a huge opportunity through the LCR devolution agreement and our elected LCR Mayor.

Following the appointment of a new Chief Executive and a recent senior management restructure, we are now seeking to recruit a Director of Children’s Services to lead the journey to improve our services for children and young people.

This vital role will report to the Chief Executive and will play a key role in the council’s senior management team. The postholder will be responsible for a range of service areas including education, early help and children’s social care. As the statutory DCS, you will drive our children’s services improvement journey, supported by the council’s senior management team, political leaders and Cabinet.

We are seeking an inspirational leader with significant senior management experience within local government children’s services and a proven track record of improving outcomes for children. You will also have excellent partnership skills, a strong political understanding, and the ability to deliver results and find solutions.
