Please note that both roles are being offered on a 12 month fixed term contract and part time basis for 30 hours per week, with a requirement to work at least one day at the weekend.

We hope to be able to have these position start for mid July 2020 and all interviews will be conducted via online, via Microsoft Teams/Virtual Interview.

The full-time salary is £19,329 PA based on a 37 hour week). With this role being part time (30 hours a week actual earning would be £15,552 PA or £9.89 per hour

Business Hours are: Mon - Fri 8am- 3pm and Sat - Sun 7am to 4pm, and hours will be spread across these days and times. For example, the hours could be one weekend day (9 hrs) and 3 weekdays (21 hrs); however, we could also accommodate someone looking to work both weekend days, with fewer hours during the week.

Job Purpose

Based in the café at the Discovery Centre at Great Notley County Park, Catering Assistant-Cooks will contribute to managing the delivery of a professional catering service to the visitors of the park, ensuring the customers experience meets and aims to exceed their expectations. Ensuring a clean, safe, tidy and welcoming place for customers to consume food, undertaking and supervising food preparation and processing, in line with safe food processes and practices, complying at all times with food and health and safety requirements.

Service/Functional Accountabilities

* Work alongside the Catering Lead to ensure the Catering Department delivers its objectives, ensuring best value for money and accurate in-year spend.
* Engage with appropriate stakeholders to define requirements and achieve quality, timely and value for money services.
* Responsible for ensuring hygiene practices and regulations are stringently implemented in the kitchen and areas where food is handled/served whilst maintaining appropriate health and safety standards for all catering and serving areas to ensure the wellbeing of customers.
* Contribute to managing all staff working in the Catering Department, to ensure that FTE, Seasonal and Capita/Agency staff all have a deep understanding of their roles to increase efficiency and continuity of great service.
* Prepare, cook and where necessary, serve meals and beverages to a standard and quality expected by customers.
* Washing up, using a dishwasher, clearing tables, sweeping floors, cleaning equipment and structure deep cleaning, to ensure all health and safety standards are met.
* Responsible for identifying tasks within the range of Catering Assistant remit and ensuring these are completed to a high standard.
* Contribute to stocktaking, and stock movement to ensure stock and consumables are used and maintained correctly.
* Responsible for complying with all health and safety rules ensuring the proper use and care of protective clothing and equipment.
* Completing records on time and accurately to help the Service measure key performance indicators on footfall, service quality and expenditure
* Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


* Experience of working within a Catering environment, a level 1 or above qualification is desirable.
* Ability to develop skills and knowledge within role.
* Experience of delivering excellent customer service.
* Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to prioritise own workload and work within a team.
