City of York Council require a Social Care Manager. We want young people to live their best life in their City. The Preparing for Adulthood team is a part of City of York’s multi-agency response to supporting young people with additional needs and their families, as they move into adulthood. There are 2 posts available – 1 for 37 hours per week and 1 for 18.5 hours per week.

The prospect of increasing independence, keeping healthy, learning skills for employment and maintaining friends in your local community, are exciting for many of us and daunting for some. Being part of this team could mean you are a component of a young person’s pathway into adulthood and the rest of their lives.

We are looking for someone who will:

•    Be a qualified social worker with two years post qualifying experience
•    Have a working knowledge of young people with disabilities and additional needs
•    Have an understanding of the issues for young adults and families as they
•    move into adulthood and start a new phase of their lives
•    Have safeguarding experience with adults and their families/carers
•    Have a working knowledge of The Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and DOLS/LPS legislation
•    Be able to have a strengths based attitude to the needs of adults and carers, involving them in the assessment of needs. Recognising that solutions exist within themselves, their communities as well as health and social care agencies.
•    Be someone who can find innovative solutions which meet the needs of people using their professional skill, judgement and knowledge.
•    Work as a member of multi-disciplinary team
•    Be committed to working with families, local communities voluntary, private and statutory organisations. Co-producing solutions and building resilience
•    Be someone who possess a high level of creativity and innovation and is required to provide a person-centred support, exploring different ways of meeting individual needs, this is needed at the current time more than ever
•    Be able to communicate effectively in a variety of situations both written and orally

We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level: C2 - Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
