The role

These are challenging yet exciting times to be joining the London Borough of Lewisham, south London’s most vibrant and diverse borough.

Like all Councils, we have worked exceptionally hard over the past few months to support our most vulnerable residents through the coronavirus pandemic. Our communities, partners and staff have pulled together, working in unprecedented partnership to respond to the many challenges brought by the virus. We know that the lasting effects of the pandemic will have a significant impact on the borough and we are determined to continue to collaborate in order to build back better for our residents.

We are looking for a creative and energetic team player to shape and drive our strategic communications and engagement approach to support the delivery of the Council’s Corporate Strategy and Lewisham’s recovery from COVID-19.

This post provides a unique opportunity to make a lasting positive impact, building on Lewisham’s strengths to engage with and deliver the best outcomes for our residents. The post holder will play a key role in the borough’s recovery from coronavirus, engaging and informing Lewisham’s diverse communities and always putting residents first.

We are looking for a leader, a team player, who is as passionate about Lewisham as we are. The post holder will bring energy, determination and a can-do attitude to this key strategic function, providing high-quality communications advice to the Chief Executive, Mayor and Cabinet and Council.

With day to day reporting to the Assistant Chief Executive, you will lead the Council’s communications team and build relationships across the organisation and working with and for our residents.

Location

You will be based at Laurence House, Catford. SE6 4RU.

What we’re looking for

You will have a proven record of developing and delivering communications strategies at local, regional or national level, understand the political environment in which local authorities operate and have experience of direct work with elected members, senior officers and residents.

In return, we’ll offer excellent development opportunities, plus a range of benefits that includes a career average pension scheme, flexible working and the opportunity to make a real difference to our local community.
