We are looking for Speech and Language Therapists to join our Inclusion team across North Yorkshire.

Our service works in partnership with all schools and settings within North Yorkshire to promote the inclusion, participation and achievement of children and young people with SEND. These services are allocated into SEND hubs, coordinating provision at a locality level across CYPS as a whole, to ensure needs are met holistically.

Your responsibility will be to improve the communication skills of the learners by direct intervention, and developing the skills and resources of the staff, support and advise the education staff, children and young people and parents on a wide range of organisational and curriculum issues relating to Speech Language and Communication Needs. Deliver training to professionals, schools and settings relating to Speech, Language and Communication Needs, model and coach interventions with education settings and families, contribute to reports, reviews and re-assessments as required by the SEND team as part of the statutory process, within their professional role, and to manage a caseload as specified by the line manager and in accordance with service policies and professional role, delivering a range of specific evidence based speech and language therapy interventions.

To be successful you must:

·     Be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and hold HCPC registration

·     Be able to demonstrate significant experience of assessment and monitoring of SLCN skills and have experience of working with families of children and young people with SLCN

·     Have detailed understanding of the impact of speech, language and communication skills on access to the curriculum, impact on learning and impact on social and emotional development

·     Have knowledge of the importance of the environment and communication partners in developing S&LC skills.

·     In depth knowledge of current guidance and legislation with respect to Early Years, statutory education and national curriculum delivery, knowledge of statutory requirements of the SEND Code of Practice

This role involves a specialist level of spoken communications so a confident use of English language is required.

The new Speech and Language Therapy posts will work to complement the work of the existing NHS service within the county, and so will have a role distinct to that which already exists. They will work to enhance the LA offer to children and families within the statutory EHCP process, providing reports and detailed input to support complex assessments, and to make recommendations about future provision. They will also then be able to offer an enhanced level of S&LT support and intervention for cases requiring it, particularly around building the skills and knowledge of colleagues within the hubs, and within schools, settings and colleges.

An additional focus will be the new targeted provisions being established within North Yorkshire, based in mainstream schools these will support children who can access a mainstream setting with an enhanced level of support. These new posts will work alongside NHS colleagues to enhance the SLT support available to staff and children in those provisions. They will be supported in this work by SLT assistants.
