About Barnet Council

Innovation, ambition and a drive

To deliver for residents underpin our successes in Barnet. We are proud of our ability to do things differently and can point to impressive results in tackling some of local government’s most challenging areas such as housing and adult social care, using a fresh approach. And during these challenging times it’s more important than ever to strive for excellence as we support our communities through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Working initially from home, and when possible in our brand-new Council offices in Colindalethis role will play an important role in raising awareness of NHS Test and Trace in Barnet and working with our communities to encourage ongoing behaviour change to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

The Team

The Strategic Communications and Campaigns Team serves as an in-house agency that supports the Council through creating and delivering evidence-based campaigns and strategic communications in priority areas. This role will also work closely with the Council’s Public Health Team, who have been chosen as one of four London boroughs to lead on, and share good practice as we continue to tackle the virus.

The role

The role will execute the communications strategy to support the borough’s local outbreak control plans and raise awareness of NHS Test and Trace locally and support a range of stakeholders to help prevent, and contain COVID-19 outbreaks. The communications strategy requires a tailored and considered approach to communicating with a range of audiences to ensure our messages are shared effectively. This role will work closely with the public health team, delivery partners and community partners to identify and effectively engage with residents, business and communities from across Barnet.

The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced communications and campaigns professional with a strong public sector or health background. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in implementing highly targeted, integrated communications campaigns and creating content for a range of digital and print channels. The candidate will be an accomplished communicator with all-round skills to build positive relationships, community leaders, stakeholders and senior internal clients.

The role is for five days a week but a four-day working week would also be considered.

We look forward to receive your application. If you have any question, please contact Tristan Garrick, Deputy Head of Communications – Strategy & Communications 07701 289474 or email tristan.garrick@barnet.gov.uk.

If shortlisted you will be required to bring photographic ID to your interview to prove your identity.
