We are looking for a strategic and influential leader for our next Director of Economy and Environment here in Doncaster. We want to find somebody who is just as ambitious for Doncaster as they are for themselves, with a genuine passion for driving change, forming collaborative partnerships and influencing key stakeholders, to help us continue to make Doncaster a great place to learn, work and live.

Doncaster has been on an amazing journey for the last few years. Our Doncaster Growing Together plan was launched in 2017 with the ambition to grow the borough in a whole host of ways - the economy, the infrastructure and of course the green environment. We have come a long way in a short space of time, and have achieved an awful lot, but we are still full of passion and will continue to develop and innovate. There is more to do, which is where you come in.

The next phase of growth and transformation is almost here - in 2021 Team Doncaster will set an ambitious five year plan building on our strong foundations, alongside the election of our Mayor. What a pivotal time to be joining us - this role will afford you the opportunity to play a key role in shaping our future.

The Director of Economy and Environment is the strategic lead and commissioner for place shaping of the borough with a focus on inclusive economy growth, affordable housing and creating a clean, safe and sustainable environment for the residents of Doncaster.

As a key member of the Council’s Corporate Leadership Team, you will provide strategic support and guidance for the Mayor, Cabinet and Council and make a significant contribution to the prosperity and growth of Doncaster as a key economic hub in the Yorkshire region.

You will lead by example, providing energetic, visible and inspiring leadership, taking personal responsibility on all aspects of the Council’s services to the residents, businesses and visitors of Doncaster, while empowering others to do the same.

Your specific responsibilities will include:

·     Economy - working collaboratively with Sheffield City Region will be vital here.

·     Sustainability - leading the council’s approach to delivering on our ambition and becoming a zero carbon borough by 2040.

·     Housing - delivering on our affordable housing ambitions is key.

·     Environment operations - management of street scene to deliver on our greener ambitions.

You will be responsible for a circa £100m budget and circa 1,000 staff.
