Reading is a great place to live and work. One of the UK’s best-connected locations, benefiting from already exceptional transport links which will only be enhanced when Crossrail arrives. Reading has a thriving economy and a low unemployment rate; the borough offers a vibrant and thriving space for its residents, workers and visitors.

We’ve made the most of this by truly embracing modern, flexible working styles. We empower our employees to deliver their best, in a way that suits their lifestyle. As such we benefit from a diverse team, many live locally but many are based much further away.

The Council has ambitious plans for sustained financial and commercial growth across the borough and we are seeking an Assistant Director for Finance to lead our Finance Team; to drive and embed delivery of the Service’s own transformation programme and support the delivery of the Council’s wider priorities.

A highly experienced and qualified financial leader with a thorough grounding in local government finance, you’ll bring a wealth of technical expertise combined with an inspirational leadership and management style. As the Council’s Deputy S151 Officer, and with aspirations to take on the S151 Officer role, you will thrive on motivating a large team to deliver excellent customer centric services.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Resources and a key member of the Directorate Management team you’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation in support of our strategic aims and to ensure the Council is ‘fit for the future’.
