The Youth work team leader YEA will work with the Professional Youth Worker to facilitate and support the activities of the YEA that enable the mandated 'voice' of young people to be heard and enable the YEA 'Agenda for action' to be progressed to ensure the inclusion of all young people especially the disaffected and disadvantaged.

They will support the development of the Members of the YEA (MYEA) to enable them to effectively progress their agenda for the young people of Essex. Provide them with appropriate support to facilitate their projects, activities, events and the election process.

The team leader will work with young people, their communities and the Professional Youth Worker, YEA:


* Ensure that young people's voice is heard and represented in the work of the YEA
* Developing and maintaining relationships with young people, their communities and elected members
* Encourage and enable young people to participate in a range of educational and personally challenging activities
* Provide access to information and personal support, which enables young people to develop the confidence and skills to become creative, active and critical participants in the wider community
* Comply with statutory requirements, including equality and anti-discrimination legislation and ESCB safeguarding
* Represent the council effectively both internally and externally


Role Specific Accountabilities:

To work with young people, partners and elected members by:


* Making contact and establishing relationships with young people, the voluntary sector, communities and elected members to ensure the voice of young people in Essex is heard and represented
* Supporting the YSG's to identify local priorities and support the commissioning processes ensuring local resources are focused on meeting youth work and local priorities
* Complete all qualifications undertaken within appropriate stated timescale
* Take part in ECC's management supervision and the staff performance management scheme, to identify priorities and learning needs and to be responsible for the learning and development of self
* Follow Child Protection Guidelines and report any concerns using the correct procedure
* Comply with individual responsibilities for staff and young people, in accordance with work role, for health and safety in the workplace
* To deliver or support the direct delivery of youth work programmes as may be required, to include residential experiences for young people
* Ensure all duties and services provided are in accordance with the County Council Equal Opportunities Policy and Practice as directed by the Team Leader.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the level and accountabilities of the post as directed by the Youth work Commissioner.

Knowledge, Skills and Expeirence

* Qualified to Level 3 (or equivalent) in a JNC recognised Youth Work Qualification, or willing to undertake and complete this qualification within two years.
* Ability to work in partnership across a range of sectors to support the identification of desired outcomes for young people.
* Good level of numeracy and literacy (GCSE A - C or equivalent or demonstrable experience) or be prepared to undertake
* Experience of working with young people which may be in a voluntary role
* Ability to build relationships and relate well to young people, partners and elected members
* Ability to motivate young people and facilitate young people's learning
* Commitment to challenging prejudice and ignorance
* Ability to develop work with young people to achieve planned outcomes
* Ability to work as part of a team

The job requires you to be mobile throughout the county therefore access to a vehicle or another mode of transport will be required.
