Job Details

Having recently been established as an Advisory Non-Departmental Public Body by the Department for Transport, The Independent Commission on Civil Aviation Noise (ICCAN) will play a vital role in society. With flight noise generating a huge amount of public interest and concern, it is our job to ensure the British public are not being negatively affected by flight paths. As such, the ICCAN will provide a bridge between the communities being affected by aviation noise, the government and industry – providing a fascinating career opportunity for a proactive individual who is keen to make an impact on the future of the UK’s skies.

At ICCAN, we face a complex challenge. The public has expressed a distinct lack of trust in the data and evidence relating to aviation noise. You will help us establish ICCAN as a trusted authority by using a robust evidence-base to make recommendations relating to key aviation noise issues. Working in partnership with ICCAN colleagues and aviation stakeholders to develop in-depth knowledge, you will formulate innovative policy options challenging industry to better assess and mitigate undue noise. You will also work in partnership with the communications team to interpret and communicate complex issues to a wide array of audiences, and you will be expected to support the procurement and delivery of high-quality externally commissioned research.

This is a highly varied role that will provide you with the scope to make a tangible impact on the wellbeing of the population. As you will need to apply commercial and practical implementation considerations to policy proposals, you will need previous policy, technical and project management experience, underpinned by exceptional strategic and analytical capabilities. A knowledge of the aviation or transport industries would be beneficial (though is not strictly essential) and you will enjoy writing reports and presenting your findings. If you have experience of local government, planning, acoustics or environmental policy, that would be an added benefit, though it is more important that you are a natural leader with the confidence to set the agenda for others. Crucially, you will be able to make effective decisions when under pressure in a fast-paced environment, and your communication and partnership-building skills will be exemplary.

Join our team, and embrace a deeply rewarding opportunity in a friendly and dynamic team. Here, you will have the chance to develop your expertise and forge valuable contacts – and with a generous benefits package and the chance to work flexibly, you will find a great work/life balance. This is a unique chance to establish the future of the ICCAN, and to establish us as a trusted public-facing body. So get in touch with us today, and start the journey towards a fulfilling career.

Closing date: 23 September 2020.
