The Role

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils Adult Social Services are recruiting Social Workers for both our Richmond and Wandsworth Access teams.

The Access Team is the front door for residents accessing the Adult Social Care Services for Richmond and Wandsworth. Both are fast-paced dynamic team that adopts a strengths-based approach, to promote independence and informed choice.

This is a very exciting time to join the team as we are currently going through a major re- design of our service. The aim is to transform our front door service by implementing a shift away from process led intervention to a more dynamic based practice model which places our clients at the very centre of all that we do. Our aim is to work smarter, efficiently and to work in genuine partnership with our clients, achieving the best possible outcomes.

Our vision is to “Deliver the Best for our Residents” and to promote all our residents’s wellbeing by supporting people to stay active in their communities and retain their independence for as long as possible.

As a qualified social worker you will be required to: 

  • undertake initial preventative assessments and support planning of individual and carers needs to encourage independence, provide support and prevent harm.
  • work in partnership with service users and carers using a person-centered approach, with the aim of maximising independence, wellbeing and choice.
  • apply social work principles and values to guide professional practice and respect diversity.
  • candidates must have post qualification experience along with a good knowledge of relevant legislation and local authority responsibilities in the safeguarding of vulnerable adults. You must have good communication, decision-making and time management skills.

This is a busy team with a fast throughput of work, therefore excellent time management skills and the ability to manage your own caseload is essential.

The person interested in this post will:

  • have the interests of residents and service users at heart, and ensuring they receive the highest standards of service provision
  • take a team approach that values collaboration and partnership working.
  • have knowledge of current developments in relevant legislation, national guidance and frameworks and how to access more detailed information when necessary, including the local authority’s responsibility to safeguard adults at risk
  • be able to make rapid judgements, at times in emergencies

The role will require that the candidate has the relevant social work qualification and experience in social care as well as being registered with Social Work England.
