Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.

We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the City.

Background

The Thames Estuary is a new growth project which will be crucial to the country’s recovery from the pandemic and play a massive part in the UK’s fortunes after Brexit.

There’s so much happening. Everything from improved transport hubs, river crossings, roads, rail, ports and airports to super-fast digital infrastructure, innovative business parks and world-class theme parks. All backed up with strategies around skills, employment and housing so people can genuinely access the new opportunities which emerge, and with emphasis on environmental improvement and ‘good green growth’ wherever possible.

Indeed, the environment is at the front-and-centre of our plans. We’ll explore how more freight and passenger traffic can be taken off our roads and onto the river. We’ll look at new hydrogen production technologies and cleaner power to fuel our Estuary. We’ll look at how we can catalyse a Great Thames Park so people can enjoy its cleaner air and gorgeous spaces.

The potential of this place is enormous. The Estuary has excellent links into central London and major European cities; has vast swathes of riverside and brownfield land available for building everything from new housing, global headquarters, mass logistics centres to Hollywood-rivalling film studios. Indeed, a gigantic super-studio is being built in Dagenham as East London fast becomes the movie capital of the UK. There are millions of talented people ready to take up these emerging opportunities and Estuary businesses already capitalising. As the UK looks internationally for new trading opportunities and brokers deals with other countries, the Estuary has a compelling role. We will promote it internationally as the UK’s best growth opportunity because that’s exactly what it is.

What about communication?

We are right at the beginning, so this is a fantastic time to join us and make your mark! Working with our partner MSQ, we have developed a bold and feisty brand for the Thames Estuary; a fully-interactive website, explainer film, e-newsletter, image bank, blog and campaign centre. We have our foundations but now we need to create some momentum and some brilliant content to support the work of our Growth Board and our Envoy, Kate Willard.

We are going to be developing several domestic and international campaigns over 2020 and 2021 to get our message across that the Thames Estuary is the best and greenest place in the UK to grow a business; start a business, or relocate one because it has all of the conditions for success.

We are looking for a creative communicator to join our small team. You’ll work with us across everything we do. Our campaigns, media work, podcasting, video production, newsletters, public affairs work, stakeholder engagement and event management.

You will also work with Local London – a sub-regional partnership of eight councils including yours – to work on its campaigns, and manage its website, e-newsletter and social media.
