The Role

If the answer is yes, then we want to encourage you to consider applying to become our Case Manager for our Youth Offending Team (YOT)!

We are seeking an experienced, energetic and effective practitioner who is committed to working with young people and their families who are within the youth justice framework.

About the team

The Youth Offending Team (YOT) places the well-being of children & young people at the centre and works hard to help them realise their potential to become accomplished adults. We use the skills of a multi-disciplinary team to support children and their families to address issues that may be causing them difficulties.

We are a high performing team that obtained a rating of GOOD (with Outstanding features) in its 2018 HMIP inspection.

About the role

The successful candidate will need to work from ‘child first, offender second’ approach that promotes diversity, whilst being able to recognise and challenge factors leading to discrimination, disproportionality and safeguarding concerns such as child exploitation.

You will manage a generic caseload of young people presenting offending behaviour who may be subject to court orders, produce reports for courts, community panels or the secure estate and deliver interventions to young people and their families to reduce offending.

The YOT Case Manager will have a strong track record in working with some of the most challenging and vulnerable young people in the community to support positive outcomes and reduce re-offending. They will also have a good understanding of working in partnership with services within and outside of the Council.

In addition to the above, to be shortlisted for interview your CV and Personal Statement will demonstrate:

  • A professional qualification in Social Work or Probation.
  • Knowledge of Criminal Justice Legislation and be committed to meeting the aims and objectives of the Crime & Disorder Act 1998, the Criminal Justice & Immigration Act 2008 and the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012
  • Recent experience of undertaking assessments & working directly with young people and their families
  • An ability to demonstrate commitment to the Council’s Equal Opportunity Policy
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; good IT skills
  • The ability to work flexibly as some evenings will be required
