Sandwell Council is taking steps to prepare the borough for the likely impacts of climate change and is looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic about achieving this goal and can offer business support to the Climate Change Programme. Sandwell is one of the four authorities which makes up the Black Country and is working closely with all members of the West Midlands Combined Authority to tackle climate change.

The council’s Climate Change Strategy includes an ambitious target for the authority to be carbon neutral by 2030 which is why the Climate Change Programme cuts across all areas of the council. Therefore, you must be comfortable in working with officers at all levels of the organisation and in supporting activities which help them to achieve carbon neutrality in their areas of work.

You should have: an interest in tackling climate change; a broad understanding of its causes; be familiar with the types of activities which are needed to lower emissions and to help Sandwell play its part in limiting the rise of the earth’s temperature.

You will have excellent organisational and communication skills, be experienced in supporting projects and in providing business support. You must be able to work independently and to demonstrate that you have the initiative and the skills to develop and lead on project activities. This is initially for a 12-month fixed term contract.

Full details of the role are contained in the attached Job Description and Personnel Specification.
