Job Details
The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is a unique local authority. Home to approximately 148,000 residents (including the Queen and the Royal Family), our historic places and attractions bring visitors from across the world.
While we have been profoundly affected by the challenge of COVID-19, we have come through the acute phase better than might have been the case; and as a leadership team, we know what the direction of travel needs to be for the ‘new normal’ we’re entering. Now we’re looking for a highly experienced and legally-qualified professional, reporting to the Managing Director and sitting on the Directors’ Group, to join us as we build capacity within our governance, legal and strategic services.
As our statutory Monitoring Officer, you’ll work closely with elected members and colleagues to promote and embed a highly effective culture of democratic governance; in addition, you’ll act as our client for the legal element of our shared service provider, and will also lead a brand new team working on strategy, policy, customer engagement and communications across the authority.
Candidates will bring a sophisticated grasp of governance in local government, together with the experience and interpersonal skills to work in a fast-moving and democratic setting. An understanding of how to model, influence and promote the very best in democratic governance, and the tenacity to see changes through to adoption, are essential.
Visit www.join-RBWM.co.uk to find out more or contact Steve Guest at Solace in Business on 020 7976 3311 for a confidential discussion.
Closing date: 19th October 2020.
Company
The whole of Eton town is a conservation area and there are significant areas of Windsor and Cookham similarly designated. The district includes 148 acres of parks, open spaces and recreational grounds and enjoys extensive riverside frontage with associated amenity areas. On the 1 April 1998 the Royal Borough and the other five Berkshire districts became Unitary Authorities and took over responsibility for the services previously provided by the former Berkshire County Council. The Royal Borough includes two ancient boroughs each with its own tradition and history. Windsor is known throughout the world for its castle, which has been a fortress and Royal residence for over 850 years. Both Windsor and its neighbour, Eton are major tourist attractions. The area of the Royal Borough extends along both banks of the River Thames between Runnymede and Windsor and on the south bank of the Thames from Windsor to Hurley. This area includes Datchet, Horton, Wraysbury, Old Windsor, Windsor Great Park, Sunninghill, Sunningdale, the Ascot Racecourse, the castle and the town of Windsor, Eton with its famous college, Maidenhead, the villages of Bray, Cookham and Hurley, White Waltham and Waltham St. Lawrence.
