Senior Public Health Intelligence Specialist - Northallerton
Contract Type: 1 permanent, full-time. 1 fixed-term, 12 month contract

These posts offer an exciting and challenging career opportunity for experienced Public Health Intelligence Specialists to join a highly respected organisation and Public Health team. You will be responsible for providing excellent analytical support for health improvement and health protection initiatives. Therefore, you will be highly experience in using a wide range of Public Health data sources, both internal and external to your work environment, collating that data and transforming it into intelligence.
We are embarking on a Population Health Management programme with partners from across the Humber, Coast and Vale area, working with CCG and Primary Care Network colleagues as well as neighbouring local authority public health teams. There are a growing number of PCNs involved in North Yorkshire and the successful candidates will provide significant analytical advice. You will provide substantial authorship for our Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, including area-based profiles; contributions to the Director of Public Health annual report; and lead on public health performance reporting. You will provide briefings to senior managers and elected members as well as represent NYCC at the regional public health intelligence network and work with colleagues in local NHS organisations.
The post holders will provide important inputs into health improvement programmes and outbreak surveillance and monitoring, including written reports and presentation to senior leadership and external partners. This will include accessing restricted and confidential data, therefore you will be familiar with data protection and information governance requirements.
You will have highly developed analytical skills and significant experience in public health intelligence / disease surveillance with an ability to make sense of potentially conflicting or incomplete information. You will be adaptable, flexible and able to meet new challenges and complete tasks within tight timescales, including those arising from COVID-19, including a willingness to provide occasional support outside normal working hours.
Your main duties will be:
Managing the Public Health Intelligence work programme
Use of multiple data sources, both internal and external
Collating of data and transforming it to intelligence
Report writing and presentation to senior leadership and external partners
Key inputs into outbreak surveillance and monitoring
Working with confidential data in line with Data Protection legislation and Information Governance guidelines
Support for Public Health team in population health improvement
The successful candidate must have:
- Well-developed analytical skills
- Significant experience in public health intelligence and disease surveillance
- Ability to present complex information to a range of audiences, both written and verbal
- Adaptability and flexibility to meet new and emerging challenges arising from COVID-19
- Ability to make sense of sometimes conflicting and incomplete information
- Able to complete tasks within tight timescales
- Flexibility with working hours, potentially including some weekends.
