If you are passionate about the environment, and the support services required to keep it safe, clean and green, take a look at our vacancies and join our dedicated team.

The Role:

The Noise and Nuisance Team operates 7 days a week and until the early hours of the morning dealing with 13,000 complaints each year. You will be in a key role providing a highly responsive service to residents and businesses in the Borough. Please refer to the job description for more information.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

We would like you to have some experience in working in Environmental Health so that you can show an understanding of the wide range of work that we can get involved in.  Ideally, you will have experience of investigating noise complaints and taking appropriate follow up action, preferably on a shift work basis with recent suitable and practical experience of enforcement within the Noise and Nuisance field.

You should have a wide knowledge of preventative and promotional health, safety and welfare measures in relation to Noise and Nuisance. You will be able to provide an excellent customer experience whilst dealing with customers face to face, or by telephone or email.

Role Requirements:

You will need to have an excellent working knowledge of relevant legislation and powers, e.g. Environmental Protection Act 1990, Control of Pollution Act  1974 and Clean Neighbourhood & Environment Act 2005.  You should also have an understanding of related powers to control noise from licensed premises under the Licensing Act 2003 (the team is a Responsible Authority under the Act), as well as an awareness of the planning system and its preventative role in controlling noise.

It is essential that you are capable of keeping detailed, concise, and accurate records of all visits and actions and preparing witness statements, writing notices and schedules with the minimum of supervision. You will need to have the ability to deal with confrontational situations confidently, calmly, assertively and impartially. Have good listening and negotiation skills and be capable of adapting your style and approach to different situations and groups of people.

To be successful in the Noise and Nuisance Team you will need a genuine commitment to customer care and equality in the delivery of a great quality service.

We work in partnership with Hampshire County Council (HCC) who deliver many transactional services on our behalf. Although most communications will be from HCC, all selection and appointment decisions will be made by RBKC. Certain services are shared across more than one Council area to nearby neighbouring Authorities. This enhances delivery and reduces costs. Your recruitment information will advise if your remit extends beyond RBKC.

We will primarily contact candidates by e-mail throughout the recruitment process, please monitor your email junk / spam folder as our system generated emails may be allocated to these folders by your email settings.

We engage our staff with a variety of learning types including face-to-face and virtual learning because we want to ensure our staff understand our values and behaviours, grow their skills and develop their careers.
