The Role:

Are you an experienced Children’s Social Worker with 5 years experience in the Child Protection Field? Would you like to work in an Emergency Duty Social Work service in an Ofsted rated ‘outstanding’ Family Service department?

In the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea we are looking to recruit a specialist Children’s EDT Worker for our Emergency Duty Social Work service that serves three boroughs, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster and Hammersmith and Fulham. The Children’s Team comprises of 5 Qualified Social Workers who work on a shift basis evenings and weekends. 

The EDT team provides a shift of one Children’s and two AMHP adult social workers. It provides a service out of hours and covers emergencies in relation to Child Protection Adults, Older people, Mental Health. The team has been established as a three borough service since 2015. The Children’s social worker is supervised by a Children’s Deputy Team Manager. There is access to training including systemic social work training.

About You:

  • Must hold relevant Social Work Qualification.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of issues affecting all client groups.
  • Ability to work under own initiative.
  • Good risk assessment skills.
  • Experience of dealing with people in crisis.
  • 5 years post qualification experience in children’s social work setting. 
  • Experience of working with Child Protection.
  • Knowledge of All London Child Protection Procedures.
  • Knowledge of working with adults and children under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

​​Role Requirements:

  • Ensure the safety to life and limb of Borough residents, in so far as the tasks needed to do so are social work and to arrange placement of vulnerable people, both adults and children.
  • Undertake child protection investigations; and if necessary complete these with emergency protection orders and accommodating children.
  • To ensure an “appropriate adult” service for vulnerable clients being interviewed by the police, as required by the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring the return of missing children to their placement, when they are found, in accordance with principles of good social work practice; 
  • Carry out other statutory duties of the Social Services Department as detailed in the Service Level Statement for the Emergency Duty Team;
  • Give advice and support to other staff, foster carers and other carers in so far as this is needed and is not otherwise available outside office hours.

We work in partnership with Hampshire County Council (HCC) who deliver many transactional services on our behalf. Although most communications will be from HCC, all selection and appointment decisions will be made by RBKC. Certain services are shared across more than one Council area to nearby neighbouring Authorities. This enhances delivery and reduces costs.
