SAFE, RESILIENT, CONNECTED COMMUNITIES
Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are home to over 1.7 million people, with 11 million more visiting us every year. We are determined that policing in the peninsula be among the very best and are proud that our crime rates are among the lowest in the country. We have already delivered a great deal, including investing in 317 new police officers, building two new police stations and developing pioneering, collaborative working that is preventing serious violence. Working closely with our Chief Executive and PCC, you and your teams will bring leadership, management and delivery for our 2020/21 priorities, continuing the theme of Safe, Resilient, Connected Communities.
The Director of Operations is a new role, providing leadership and line management for strategy, policy and performance as well as our business support and customer services team. In this post you will also fulfil the duties of Deputy Chief Executive and Monitoring Officer when required, delivering across the full range of priorities set by the PCC. Our ambition and success has seen us continue to build our profile and role; this is a huge opportunity to extend your influence and contribute to improving the lives of all the peninsula’s residents.
To be successful in this role you will need to have experience of working in an organisation with a strong focus on governance, policy development, innovation and scrutiny. Ideally you will have a background in organisations with strong legal and governance frameworks and public accountability. You will bring a good understanding of the implications of working in a political environment. Leadership experience of a range of operational public protection and community safety services would be extremely beneficial. You will be a collaborative and resilient leader with the ability to influence and negotiate across organisations and partnerships and a keen interest in generating fresh thinking and creativity.
This is a highly influential role, one that will place you at the heart of critical strategy and policy development, decision making and delivery that makes the police better and people safer. We enjoy excellent professional working relationships with this Police Force and others in the region. Local agencies in the public and voluntary sectors work extremely well together. If you are motivated by applying your expertise and experience to improving the lives of others then this is the role for you.
