Fostering Social Worker - Support and Supervision South East Team

1 part-time vacancy in the Scarborough area (18.5 hours)

We are inviting applications from Qualified Social Workers to join a strong performing fostering service. We are proud that we are able to support local children in local placements. Following the recent promotion of the current Liaison Social Worker we are seeking to train and develop the Department for Education funded Mockingbird Project. You will support an alternative way of delivering foster care to improve safety, stability and permanency for children and young people in local authority care and improve support for carers.

Fostering North Yorkshire are extremely proud of our Children and Families Ofsted report, rating us as ‘Outstanding’ in all provisions across our children’s social care services, stating:

“Almost 100 per cent of North Yorkshire’s children in foster care are placed within the county.”

This is a great achievement for Britain’s largest county and a culture we want to continue to grow, seeing children remaining close to their families, in their community and school wherever possible.

We have dedicated teams providing the supervision and support to all approved foster carers. You would be joining an existing team of 10 Fostering Social Workers, across the South East area of the county who are responsible for North Yorkshires foster carers.

As a qualified Social Worker, we would be seeking someone with experience in fostering and have a good understanding of the impact of childhood adverse trauma. You will need to be committed to developing excellent outcomes for children through creating productive working relationships with a wide range of services to support our fostering families.

The post of Fostering Social Worker requires a range of professional skills; however, this role will predominantly focus on the Liaison Social Work role for the Mockingbird Project. You will be responsible for the supervision and support of hub home foster carer and work with other foster carers as part of the constellation. You will be required to attend and support constellation events and take an active role in the next step of developing a hybrid model with the award winning ‘No Wrong Door’ who care for the most complex children and young people in care.

Applicants would benefit from an understanding of the whole fostering process, but specifically the requirements to support and supervise Foster Carers.  In addition, you should be familiar with the statutory responsibilities throughout their on-going approval.

The successful candidate will join a county fostering service committed to developing excellent practice in line with the National Fostering Regulations and National Minimum Standards.
