Setting the scene for our future

As the new Director of Education and Skills at Bury Council, you will be working to the newly appointed Executive Director for Children and Young People and have the opportunity to benefit from the positive work that has been done to invest in the team and this important service.

We have been working to develop school leadership and an improvement model that will see you leading our 0-24 strategy with schools, and with early years, FE and HE providers on skills for work and skills for life. Education excellence for all children and young people is our top priority and we are ambitious in tackling underperformance. To do this, you’ll be working to influence and drive partnership working with new approaches and innovation to build on these foundations and achieve our plans.

You will come in to lead a team who have been working hard to build the relationships and partnerships with our schools and employers and continue to develop and promote an education strategy fit for an authority with a rich educational heritage and a key role on the wider Greater Manchester agenda.

We don’t hide the size of the challenge – but by the same token it is a big opportunity to be at the forefront of modern thinking in this area. You’ll need to be an effective corporate contributor and be able to work with and alongside our Members who are passionate about improving life chance for all of Bury’s children and young people.

If you’re ready to share your learning for the benefit of ours, we would like to hear from you.
