The opportunity

Essex County Council's corporate strategy team leads on: strategic planning - ensuring that the organisation is working in an effective way to an agreed set of priorities with clear success measures; developing key organisational strategies; using data, insight and innovation to re-think how we approach priority issues and services in a digital age; developing key external relationships and partnerships with organisations such as think tanks, universities and other county councils; and analysing and influencing national policy in areas of prime interest for the Council.
This role will involve taking a lead on policy and strategy development, strategic level engagement and working with external partners and service experts to develop our policy response to support families. Working closely with senior leaders, politicians and internal and external stakeholders you will have the opportunity to make a real impact through the innovative work we are delivering to support this cohort of families in Essex.

About you

Educated to degree level (or equivalent by experience) you will be a strategic thinker who is able to bring together data, insight and other evidence to shape how we think about and deliver key outcomes and services. You will be a proactive self-starter who is able to work flexibly across a range of subject areas. You will be a strong communicator and influencer, able to work well with a range of stakeholders including senior officers and politicians; and able to present proposals in a clear, concise and evidenced manner both verbally and in writing. You will have experience of working on policy issues, for example in central government, local government or in a policy institute or think tank.
