Southend-on-Sea is a place like no other. And what a place to live, work and play. A vibrant, entrepreneurial place, with a burgeoning cultural scene, we are also blessed with many of the things you would expect from a traditional seaside town. And it is a town that welcomes over 7 million visitors very year.

Our Southend 2050 Ambition set a radical, new direction of travel to a future where all Southenders live, learn and work in a prosperous, confident and well-connected city. To deliver our ambition we embarked on a fundamental programme of change. We are already a Council that is more agile, more efficient, more entrepreneurial and more engaged with residents and customers. Our “Transforming Together” values have become an integral part of who we are and how we work.

As Executive Director, Neighbourhoods & Environment, you will lead and transform the services and partnerships that keep Southend-on-Sea clean, green, safe and moving. Working closely with community safety partners, the business sector and local communities you will bring the focus to our public realm that residents want to see, protect the environment and further enhance the attractiveness of Southend-on-Sea as a destination for visitors.

You will take forward key corporate priorities, including tackling violence and vulnerability and championing our commitment to zero net carbon. The recent restructure of our highways division will be successfully embedded under your leadership. But your corporate role as part of the Executive Leadership Team of the Council will be just as important as your critical functional responsibilities.

If you are a leader who drives positive change, encourages innovation and delivers outcomes in a collaborative, commercial way, then come to Southend and help shape our city of the future. Find out more about our ambition and apply at:

The closing date for applications is Monday 7th December.
