About Us:

While many of our residents are flourishing in our borough, others need a little more support – and that is where our Adult Social Care and Public Health team play a part.  Working alongside colleagues in Westminster City Council, we have formed a bi-borough partnership which supports the sharing of facilities and expertise – this allows us to provide joined-up health and social care services that are constantly evolving and improving. With both boroughs ranked as having some of the best adult social care services in the country, we intend to maintain these high standards, supporting people to stay close to their communities and homes, and outside of acute and institutional care where it is appropriate.  We help our community to be as independent as possible, and we have a clear focus on early intervention.

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Visually Impaired Rehabilitation Officer to share our values and commitment and passion for improving the lives of local residents. The role will involve carrying out statutory sensory assessments/reviews that will enable independence. It will involve supporting adults who are partially sighted, blind and/or have low vision. Working predominately with a range of Adults with physical disabilities and learning disabilities and working closely with our community and health colleagues to improve people's lives. This role will involve working in the north and south of the borough.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

You will be an innovative, positive and dedicated individual that welcomes a challenge and embraces change. Passionate about working with adults and able to make crucial decisions and problem solve, whilst meeting client’s requirements and working towards team objectives.

The role would suit someone with a flexible approach to work with an aptitude for working independently.

Role Requirements:

Main Purpose of the Job

To provide a professional Rehabilitation service to people with a wide range of adults with sensory needs. The key activities will involve:

• Identifying and delivering specialist rehabilitation interventions to visually impaired people to enhance their skills and confidence and maximise their independence.

• Supporting people at risk from harm or becoming dependent on others due to their sight loss.

• Acting as an advocate for visually impaired people and the Council by helping to promote accessible services, dignity, equality, social integration and understanding of the impact of sight/sensory loss.

• Working across a variety of service user groups including (but not exclusively), people with dual sensory loss, physical or learning disabilities, cognitive impairments or mental health conditions.

• Undertaking specialist, person-centred, visual impairment assessments, in collaboration with the visually impaired person to identify their needs, aspirations and desired outcomes.

• Planning, implementing, evaluating and reviewing services to the visually impaired person aimed at maximising and maintaining independence, safety, dignity and choice. Rehabilitation may include, but not be restricted to; daily living activities; communication skills; mobility training; low vision training.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online and specify on your application how you meet the skills, knowledge and qualities specified in the job description and person specification.
