At Westminster City Council, we are passionate about our aim to be an inclusive workplace for all that reflects the communities we serve, and we believe everyone is valued. We particularly welcome applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, including BAME, LGBTQ+ and those with hidden or visible disabilities. We’re committed to ensuring all our staff – regardless of gender, age, religion, sexuality, ethnicity or disability – can succeed. We value diversity and appreciate that people work in different ways. So, as a Timewise employer we work to provide flexible working arrangements and an empowering environment that enables you to be your best – that’s the Westminster Way.

At Westminster, we are passionate about the place and the people who live, work and visit here. We are home to more than 250,000 residents, 50,000 businesses, and 28.5 million people visit Westminster every year. Our City for All vision is simply to provide world class services to the residents and communities we serve.

Primarily, this role is about leadership.

In one of the biggest jobs in the council, you will lead our Public Protection and Licensing Directorate; a diverse range of high-profile, public-facing services for the capital ranging from Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Community Safety and Licensing and Street Enforcement. You will also be responsible for harnessing our corporate response to emergency planning and borough resilience. These services contribute to the safety of the City and its look and feel, improving Westminster for the people who live, work and visit here.

You will be at the forefront in delivering a service recognised as a public sector leader in the environmental sector by leading a service improvement programme of people and systems. You will also play your part in leading our exciting journey to become a more diverse, inclusive, flexible and agile organisation ready to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future. The rest of the world is sitting up and taking notice of the changes we have made at Westminster where we are relentlessly driving cultural change across the organisation, constantly looking for opportunities to innovate, learn, improve and grow. You will help us make a real difference.

You will have exceptional partnership-building capabilities, underpinned by the ability to get things done. You will be an inclusive and authentic leader and, coming from a large multi-disciplined organisation, you will have previously led significant services through successful transformational change.

Closing Date: 5 January 2021.
