Senior Best Interests Assessor

Permanent, Full Time

£39,168 - £47,405 Per Annum

Location: Chelmsford

Closing Date: 16th December 2020

With us, you can achieve more - for yourself as well as those you work to support.

We'll give you the tools and resources you need to enable vulnerable adults to live more independently. And, as you continue to grow your expertise, you'll play a key role in the ongoing success of our established, specialist team.

About the role

Joining our Mental Capacity Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Team in Adult Safeguarding and Quality Assurance you'll support adults who lack capacity, and their families and carers, to engage with services to help develop and maintain their independence.

Building relationships with individuals and families with a diverse range of circumstances, you'll carry out Best Interests assessments and reviews to understand their qualities and abilities, and promote their rights, dignity and self-determination.

Working on capacity-building with individuals, families, communities, user groups and voluntary organisations, you'll help to give them a voice in service provision as you gather and share their views with commissioners. And, as the link between Adult Operations and the Mental Capacity and DoLS Team in Adult Safeguarding, you'll support colleagues with expert technical and professional advice on safeguarding matters.

Your responsibilities will also include:

- Supervising colleagues and students - modelling good practice, setting expectations and providing quality assurance - and taking responsibility for their learning, development and practice.

- Building strong relationships with strategic partners and across functional areas, to inform collaborative decision-making and ensure that a legally based, human rights perspective is applied to interventions.

- Presenting cases at legal hearings.

About You

To apply, you'll need a social work degree or diploma, CQSW, CSS or equivalent. Alternatively, you could have a Diploma of the College of Occupational Therapists, a BSc. OT or other professional qualification recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.

Whether you have a social work or OT background, you should be a qualified Best Interests Assessor and have current Social Work England registration.

With significant experience gained in a social care setting, you'll bring a good knowledge of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards 2007, the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), Human Rights Act 1998 and the Care Standards Act 2000, along with national and local policy guidance. We're also looking for your ability to apply Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards procedures.

This role involves travelling around Essex and beyond, and so a current driving licence and car are essential.
