Job Details

The Definitive Map and Statement is the legal record of Cambridgeshire’s Public Rights of Way. Do you have the right skills and aptitude to keep these records up to date, progress changes to the route network, and represent the public interest?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person to join Cambridgeshire County Council’s Definitive Map Team. Based in the Highways Service, the post holder will enjoy working within a team to help manage the Council’s Highway, Commons Registration and Public Rights of Way records, and to advise other service colleagues, stakeholders and the public, whilst developing and promoting access rights for the benefit and enjoyment of the whole community.

Public Rights of Way records and legislation can be detailed, so you’ll be a quick learner with excellent organization and an appetite for professional development. You’ll be working on definitive map and commons casework: carrying out consultations, documentary research, report writing, making of legal orders and providing input on planning proposals. You’ll work in a stimulating environment with the public, partner organizations and developers to secure improvements to Cambridgeshire’s rights of way network through effective partnership working and negotiation.

You should possess good report writing, map reading and interpretation skills, together with a strong investigative and methodical approach. A high standard of written and verbal communication is essential. Previous experience of working with highways records, asset management, historical documents, surveying, relevant legislation or experience of digital mapping is desirable; however training can be provided.

Please note that although based at Huntingdon, the post-holder will be expected to travel around the county as required. The County Council’s usual flexible working arrangements apply.
• Short-listing – 4th January 2021 – midday
• Interviews – Week commencing 11th January 2021
• There will be an interview test that will be advised to short-listed candidates.
• All candidates should apply online at https://publicsectorjobseast.co.uk/

For an informal discussion please contact Roger Payne, Asset Information Definitive Map Manager – 01480 379421
