Assistant Director for Planning, Building Standards and Sustainability

Employer
Haringey London Borough Council
Location
Haringey, London (Greater)
Salary
Salary range £102,300 - £119,000
Closing date
15 Jan 2021

Haringey is rich in diversity, heritage, culture and opportunity, maybe more so than any other London borough. Haringey is our home and we’re proud of it. As a Council, we’re ambitious for our borough’s future and for the people who live and work here.

Haringey is on the move and is looking for someone to join the recently appointed Corporate Director of Housing, Regeneration and Planning, to work across the authority to deliver the Council's ambitious plans. Over the next five years, we’re tackling head-on the crisis of affordability, homelessness and housing standards. We’re delivering a £2 billion investment programme, including more than 1,000 new Council homes. Tottenham Hale, High Road West, Wood Green and Broadwater Farm are just some of the large developments in the borough which will ensure that you play a leading role in some of London’s most exciting opportunity areas. The Borough is also home to a unique mix of businesses including small and medium cultural and creative businesses and famous institutions including Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Alexandra Palace.

As Chief Planner you will be responsible for developing and delivering Haringey’s Local Plan, the Climate Change Action Plan with a target for the Borough to be zero carbon by 2041 and our Walking and Cycling Action Plan. You will work closely with the Corporate Director for Housing, Regeneration and Planning to lead a multidisciplinary team on all aspects of Planning, Building Control, Development Management, Strategic transport and sustainability. You will support and enable the brough’s ambitious housing delivery and regeneration programmes; along with leading on our exciting plans to transform the opportunity for Haringey’s residents to walk and cycle through our streetspace and transport plans.

We are looking for a creative yet pragmatic approach from an experienced multidisciplinary planning leader, some one with a track record in delivery and the ability to motivate and empower teams to drive high levels of performance. Haringey’s planning service is one of the best performing in London – we need you to maintain and build on these standards. We are looking for someone who can rise to the challenges facing local government by working in partnership; recognising that creating meaningful change cannot be done by one person or one team alone if the Council is to make a positive impact on the quality of lives of the people of Haringey.

This is an exciting time to join Haringey and play a lead role in a phenomenal borough which has huge ambition to deliver new homes, jobs and infrastructure and the passion to deliver the priorities of our residents.
