  • Do you enjoy applying psychology creatively and at multiple levels?
  • Are you a psychologist who likes a challenge?
  • Are you an innovator who can help us to further develop our working relationships with partners including Social Care and Public Health?

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and highly valued Community Educational and Child Psychology team that is expanding and evolving to meet the demands and needs of a diverse population by increasing our capacity.

Sandwell Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is a strong and vibrant team that is an integral part of the well- regarded multi-professional Inclusion Support Service (Ofsted-HMI 2017) within an LA where ‘Informed and coordinated actions are improving provision and outcomes for children and young people with SEND’ (Ofsted-HMI 2019).

We provide a working environment that promotes good working relationships and the strength of team support. You will work a school patch system in a multi-professional team but will also meet regularly with the ECP team which includes Senior ECPs, Senior Specialist ECPs, Trainee ECPs, Assistant ECPs and Research Psychologists. You will have a laptop and mobile phone, which will enable you to work efficiently and agilely.

We are fortunate to continue to operate within a centrally-funded model, but we are also developing our traded offer with schools. In addition, we are delivering high profile projects, such as the Sandwell Wellbeing Charter Mark, that have been commissioned by partners within the Local Authority including Public Health and Social Care. Our ECPs are also involved in the delivery of Video Interactive Guidance (VIG) and Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST), and have led on the development of a range of psychologically-based assessment tools and whole school approaches.

In Sandwell every day is different where the work involves a variation of activities including consultation, training, research and work with Early Years children right up to Post 16 young people. ECPs are encouraged to be innovative and creative to support service development and are autonomous in the approaches taken and the choice of tools used to work with children and young people. The ECP team have a solid team identity that is grounded in the values of Community Psychology, with a strong emphasis on person-centred approaches and anti-oppressive practice.

Sandwell is an exciting and continuously developing service where Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is highly valued. Consequently, all ECPs are encouraged to further develop their professional interests in order to enhance the progression of the service and ultimately the opportunities for the children and young people of Sandwell. In addition, planned supervision is provided for all ECPs providing a forum to reflect on and further develop practice.

The successful applicants will have an annual leave entitlement of up to 35 days per year and through the flexible working hours scheme, there is the possibility of taking up to 24 days flexi-leave a year. Travel expenses are paid with additional LA incentives such as the Car Loan and Cycle to Work Schemes available. There are various health and wellbeing programmes open to all Sandwell employees.

Our Values; TrustUnity and Progress make us unique, they define how we do things and are reflected in the way we behave. They are important to us, guiding and shaping our organisational culture. Our values are key to us achieving Sandwell’s Vision 2030 and also guide us when we recruit.
