Are you experienced in providing social, emotional and learning support to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

Do you have the skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality, personalised support that effectively meets the needs of learner?

Would you relish the chance to work as part of a dedicated and forward thinking team who really make a difference?

About The Learning Support Assistant Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work with a variety of students who require personalised support and often have bespoke learning programmes in place. You will be assisting the teaching staff with social, emotional and behaviour support as well as providing support to students on a more individualised basis.

You will have the ability to promote independence and employ strategies to recognise resilience and achievement. You will work with learners and teaching staff to agree on an appropriate programme of study support for the learner, which might include one to one sessions or small group sessions. Behaviour management will also be part of the Learning Support Assistant role, you need to have the ability to set appropriate boundaries and de-escalate challenging situations. Assisting students with their social interactions as well as engaging them with the general learning process is key to succeeding as a Learning Support Assistant in this role.

The Successful Learning Support Assistant

You need experience working with young people who have learning difficulties, disabilities and social, emotional and mental health needs. Ideally you will be creative in your approach with the ability to utilise digital technology in your practise.

Experience of working within an educational environment or specialist education settings is preferred. It would also be advantageous if you hold either a SEN qualification or NVQ3 in supporting Teaching and learning (or equivalent). However, this is not a pre-requisite for successful application.

Above all this Learning Support Assistant role requires a highly motivated individual who is organised and able to work autonomously and calmly under pressure, can communicate well with children of varying ability levels and from all backgrounds. You must demonstrate a positive and inclusive manner with a focus on solutions.
