The Role

We are looking for an experienced communications professional to manage communications for the award-winning housing development and regeneration teams at Wandsworth Council in the heart of London. You will develop and deliver proactive and reactive multi-channel communications strategies and campaigns that strengthen the identity and reputation of the council’s house-building programme, raising the profile of the council’s ambition to build Housing for All.

You will be able to create great content that demonstrates the council’s Housing for All narrative, and you will have a strong understanding of how the media works to ensure Wandsworth is seen as an important voice in housing policy in London. You will also have a good understanding of stakeholder management and experience of advising senior leaders.

This is an exciting time for the team with a mature house building programme underway including two large estate regeneration programmes and a programme to build more than 1,000 homes by 2027. The pandemic has also emphasised the importance of place shaping and house building and the programme is expanding.

You will be managed directly by the Head of Communications at Wandsworth Council but be accountable to the Director of Housing Strategy.

We recognise the importance of a good balance between work and home life so we do everything we can to accommodate flexible working including, working from home, compressed or part-time hours, term time only, job shares and other arrangements. Please just let us know in your application or at any stage throughout the process (and beyond) if these are options you’d like to explore. We also offer a generous holiday allowance of 39 paid days (pro rata) including bank holidays and a wide range of learning and development opportunities.

In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts with many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments.
