Renfrewshire is a place with a strong identity and industrial heritage, renowned for its world class manufacturing industries. We are the base for some of the UK’s biggest engineering, technology and logistics companies and home to the new National Manufacturing Institute Scotland and the UK’s first Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre. Renfrewshire is a place of learning, a place of culture, creativity and design, moreover a globally connected place that is investing in its economy, in new infrastructure, supporting innovation and developing skills for the future.
Renfrewshire Council has a reputation for ambition. We want Renfrewshire to recover quickly and grow its economy again. We want to create sustainable and better jobs through supporting businesses, attracting new investment and ensuring the foundations are in place to sustain the growing economy in the longer term. We want our success to reach all of Renfrewshire and the people and places within it.
Located in the Chief Executive’s Service, we are looking to appoint someone with drive and determination, someone who can take a lead in helping us achieve our ambitions for Renfrewshire, delivering our agreed Economic Recovery Plan, improving lives and securing wellbeing through a stronger and more inclusive and sustainable economy.
The Chief Economic and Regeneration Officer will principally be responsible for leading and driving forward the implementation of Renfrewshire’s Economic Recovery Plan and will lead the team covering a wide range of activity including strategic place planning, economic development, employability, town centre regeneration, commercial property assets, transport strategy and business advisory services.
As part of this new team, you will have vision, enthusiasm and a successful track record in economic development and/or regeneration, particularly driving change and delivering results at a senior level within a large and complex organisation. Such work will have involved extensive joint working on a multi-disciplinary and inter-agency basis.
We are looking for a leader who demonstrates the Council’s Values – someone who is a great collaborator and sees themselves as part of a team of people who really care about Renfrewshire; someone who values learning, innovation and; someone who is fair and treats people with respect; someone who wants to get things right.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic, positive individual with a strategic mindset and well-developed communication and influencing skills. Someone who takes insight from information, finds solutions to problems and has the planning skills, political awareness, resilience and commercial acumen to deliver results.
