Legal Assistant

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 18.5hrs per week – flexible work days available at candidate’s preference

We are looking for an individual who can provide legal assistance and support our legal and Democratic Service.

This is an exciting opportunity and ideally you will have some experience of working in a legal environment and have an understanding of court practice and procedure, preferably with some knowledge of debt recovery and associated legislation. You will be carry a caseload to include a wide variety of debt claims of differing values, including those exceeding current small claim limits. With supervision, you will also manage and comply with all pre action protocols, issue proceedings and manage both contested and uncontested claims, as well as arranging enforcement action with respect to court judgements.

The Legal Service is part of Legal and Democratic Services (‘LDS’) within the Chief Executive’s Group. NYCC provides a range of services to the County of North Yorkshire, and the role of the Legal Service is to support the provision by providing a comprehensive and efficient legal service to the Directorates, the Council’s Executive, full Council, Committees and Members, and external clients.
