And we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. As a Business Partner you will be part of the Supporting Communities Finance team. This team manages budgets for all of the Council’s housing services, house-building programme (the Community Investment Programme) and all other community-based services, including planning, libraries, parks, leisure centres and our relationship with the voluntary sector.
The role
This role leads on the financial monitoring, budget-setting and business partnering for two key divisions within the Council:
- Community Services: this division includes Leisure Services, Library Services, Parks, Public protection (including health and safety) and our work with the Voluntary and Community Sector.
- Housing Support Services: this division includes our housing pathway, finding temporary and eventually permanent accommodation for rough sleepers and homelessness families. The division also manages the Council’s relationship with housing associations and provides transport services for vulnerable people across the borough.
This post is a permanent appointment. It includes the line management of one Management Accountant (Community Services) and oversight of the work of one Business Advisor (Housing Support Services).
About you
You can come from any financial background. We are very keen to receive applications from experienced accountants from any sector. We are looking for the following skills and attributes are important for this role:
- CCAB (or equivalent) qualified accountant
- Detailed understanding of financial techniques such as budgeting, monitoring, closing of accounts and options appraisal
- Excellent influencing skills
- Ability to effectively communicate complex financial issues to differing levels within the organisation
- Ability to deal confidently with elected members
- Good understanding of local government finance is a benefit, but not essential
We are looking for people who can build relationships whilst delivering sound business and financial advice to the serve they are supporting. People who show an ability to really understand how the service works and be a valuable business partner and adviser to the Director of Community Services and the Director of Housing Support Services, alongside their divisional senior management team.
