Job Details

Do you want to take a lead role in developing cycling and walking in York? We have one of the UK’s most extensive systems of on and off road cycle and walk routes – and, after promotion of the previous post holder, need someone to manage the existing network and plan for its expansion.

With a background in transport planning or engineering you will have the skills to plan, consult on and deliver new cycling and walking routes, both on and off the.highway? You will be responsible for ensuring York’s extensive off road network is maintained including numerous gates, barriers and cycle parking places. The role will be primarily desk based, but it will be important to travel around the city on foot or by bike to check the condition of routes and speak to users of the routes and the organisations and volunteers involved in their maintenance.

We have ambitious plans to develop active travel in York. You will lead much of this work, including articulating the case for increasing cycling and walking with stakeholders in the city. You will be encouraged to take part in regional and national policy development too.

The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.

For further information, or an informal discussion, please contact Julian Ridge (Sustainable Transport Manager) at Julian.ridge@york.gov.uk  or on 07879 421001.
