It’s a busy and demanding time here at Sandwell Council. Our new corporate plan: Big Plans for a Great Place, sets out our ambition to deliver Vision 2030, creating a healthier, more successful future for the people of Sandwell – working as one council and one team with our residents, businesses and partners.

About us

Sandwell is made up of six historic boroughs covering a patchwork of towns and townships, urban villages and localities that developed with industrialisation. People very much identify with their local community. Sandwell is characterised by widespread deprivation with pockets of prosperity, for instance in Wednesbury and Smethwick. It is the 12th most deprived English local authority out of a total of 317.

Like any large, metropolitan borough, Sandwell faces many challenges. This brings with it a significant number of opportunities that we aim to build on over the next five years, including the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, the new Sandwell Aquatics Centre which will host the swimming and diving events for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the extension to the Midland Metro line, HS2, and many planned new homes.

About the role

As Director of Regeneration and Growth, you’ll ensure the smooth and effective delivery of our regeneration strategy. This will see you taking the lead on strategic regeneration opportunities, working closely with partners and local members as well as consulting with residents and local school pupils to identify the priorities for each of our six unique towns.  Your work will inspire healthier communities, increased employment opportunities, prevention and response to community issues and positive regeneration of places, communities and other areas including a number of areas including:

• ●         Adult Education
• ●         Black Country Impactor business

About you

With significant experience in a senior management role within a local authority or relevant setting, you’ll need a professional or management qualification (Degree level or equivalent) together with evidence of continuous professional development.

You’ll also need to have experience of successfully managing and delivering complex change and improvement programmes and the motivation, influence and drive to deliver on corporate priorities. Join us in making these exciting plans a reality.
