Job role
Head of Service
Contract Type
Full time

Lewisham is a young borough. One quarter of our residents are aged 0–19 years old. Our young people have huge talent and potential, and we want them to make the best start in life and grow up well-equipped to take advantage of the opportunities available to them in the diverse and vibrant city they live in. This is particularly important given that two thirds of our young people are from BAME groups.

This exciting role represent a new future for our service as we work closely with our partners to give all children a great start in life, making sure our Children’s future is everyone’s business.

This role will lead the work of the local area SEND partnership to deliver innovative, high quality multi-agency SEND services, which are efficient and effective in identifying and meeting needs; foster independence; promote inclusion and ultimately improve outcomes for children and young people. As well as leading on SEND elements within our embedding race equality in schools programme, you will lead committed teams and enthusiastic stakeholders - most importantly, children and young people and their families.

Collaboration is key to the success of this role. We are looking for a proven leader that understands how to work with others to achieve the best outcomes in a complex, multiagency system. You will have a demonstrable track record of developing and delivering effective integrated services and of leading service improvement with SEND. This is a big role, and whilst you may come to it from any of its areas of responsibility, you will be able to demonstrate your ability to deliver positive, successful outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
