An exciting opportunity has arisen at Chelmsford City Council within the Planning Enforcement Team for a 12-month fixed term position of a Planning Investigator.


The role of a Planning Investigator will involve reviewing alleged breaches of planning control under the Town and Country Planning Act, carrying out research and preparing reports recommending action whilst liaising with members of the public on site. There may also be a requirement to attend Courts, Public Inquiries and to serve formal notices.


Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential, as well as the confidence to carry out investigations in challenging circumstances. The successful candidate will possess strong organisational and analytical skills to undertake investigative research, maintain precise records and produce well written reports.


The successful applicant will be required to work 37 hours per week. We would also consider applicants who are interested in working as part of a job share. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, and it is essential for the role to have the use of a car and hold a full UK driving licence or equivalent.
